Green Travel and responsible tourism is a growing movement across the globe which incorporates concepts in tourism to make better places for people to both live and visit. This applies to our natural world as well. Responsible tourism lies in the hands of both the industry and the tourists. It is about taking more authentic holidays which enables you to get more out of your travels and give a little more back to the places you visit.

Green Travel Tips
- Be sure to stop your newspaper subscription before leaving home. This is an easy way to save paper and money.
- Limit what you bring. Reducing the weight of your luggage can help decrease the amount of fuel needed to get you to your destination.
- Use electronic tickets when available. Most airlines offer these as an alternative to the old fashioned paper ones.
- Consider alternative methods of transportation. Taking the train on shorter trips can decrease your enviromental footprint.
- Bring your own toiletries. If you do need to use those provided by the hotel, consider taking the used portions home with you.
- Limit your water usage. Take shorter showers and only launder the towels that you have used.
- Regulate the temperature in your hotel room. Turn down the air conditioning/heat when you’re not in the room.
- Ask questions. Does the car rental company offer hybrid vehicles? What types of “green” features does your hotel offer? Can you take public transportation to sites instead of driving yourself?
- Be mindful of the environment when hiking. Stay on marked trails and only build campfires in designated locations.
- Carry your own water bottle and refill as necessary.
